Where have I been?
Growing up we made the yearly road trips up north to visit family. So, there were countless adventures to Virginia, South Carolina & Pennsylvania. I remember being a safety patrol and making a trip to Washington D.C. via train. Although I don’t remember many details I’m sure I had a fun time with it all. Also, I remember making a trip to Key Largo for a week long camp where we learned all about Marine Biology. Again, any details are fuzzy because it was so long ago. The last trip I remember making was with the family to Tennessee where we stayed in a cabin and did white water rafting and fun things like that. At the time I really didn’t appreciate it, but looking back I can.
Las Vegas
Traveling was slow in my early 20’s. To much work to do, to little money to go anywhere. Luckily I won a pool tournament with some friends and got a free trip to Vegas in 2003. Also, I started making the yearly family renuions back in south Carolina, and I quickly fell in love with surfing again. Thankfully I recognized some of the things in my life that were bugging me and began to change my outlook and what I wanted to attain in my life. So, with a few small changes I started to work towards things I wanted.
California
The hardest part for me to overcome was the fact that no one would or could travel with me. All of my friends were busy trying to make something of their lives. So, I decided to go it alone. The first real trip I took was to California in 2003. As with any trip it started with planning out the trip. For whatever reason I decided to head to California and drive the Pacific Coast Highway. The plan was to fly into San Diego and slowly make my way up the coast to San Francisco and then head out East and work my way south back to San Diego. All in all the trip took ten days and was well worth all the adventure.
Utah
In 2005 I decided it was time to make another adventure. I always had my eye on Utah, being the ultimate outdoor adventure place. So, I started to pull out the maps and make the plan. Since I’d already been to Vegas once, I decided it was a good starting point for the journey. From here I drove out to Canyon de Chelly in Arizona, and made my way to Chaco Culture in New Mexico. Then it was back to Monument Valley and up into Utah. Inside of Utah I made a circle on the map visiting Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce, and finally Zion. By far one of the most amazing places yet!
South America
In 2006 I came across an opportunity to visit South America with an honors program through Valencia Community College. I jumped on it. We left for Buenos Aires, Argentina, and spent several days in the city. Then flew out to Iguazu Falls on the border between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. And then finally finished out the trip with a stop in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. It was an amazing experience to see all the cultures and meet a bunch of interesting people. Also, this is where I met Marisha who is now my traveling partner and much more.
Grand Canyon & the Southwest
In 2007 Marisha and I took our spring break and made a trip the Southwest of America. She’d never been there, and I wanted the chance to photograph it again. We started out at the Grand Canyon, which is nothing short of Grand. And then worked our way around the “loop” visiting Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley, Valley of the Gods, Capital Reef, Bryce and Zion. We then capped off our trip with a few days in Las Vegas, where we enjoyed a room at the Signature (MGM Grand) and watched the Cirque du Soliel show “O” at the Bellagio.
Antigua
Marisha and I honeymooned here at the Sandal’s Resort. It was such a beautiful island with a very unique personality all its own. Someday we’d like to go back and explore more of the island since we never ventured out of the resort, except for the snorkeling trips.
